In the past few years, the International Guitar Festival Zwolle developed a new mission statement.
In our new basic principles, the festival aspires to:
- play a role in the development of talent, on every level
- make a contribution to the quality of music programming in general, and in the guitar world in particular; we prefer being the switch, rather than the current. In other words: we find it more important to have an effect on the quality than to let us be carried along with the mainstream.
- put emphasis on education, lectures and discussion, in our effort to reach out to a broader audience, and to achieve a better understanding of- and familiarity with the music; rather than to commercialize our activities.
- bring different groups, ages and “layers” together and let them interact with each other. Not only amateurs and professionals, but also local level and national, and international level.
- We no longer think it is advisable to restrict our activities to exclusively the guitar. Not that we will (ever) leave the guitar as our main subject, but we believe we should show the instrument in a broader scope.
In our activities our goals where realized in (a.o.) educational projects, the ensemble weekend, a number of unique productions of our own and in the programming in general.
