The competition is open for active participants of the festival (masterclasses). Obligatory for the 1st round is: Tiento  by Maurice Ohana, and a piece free to choose of max five minutes.

A maximum of four players will be chosen to play in the final. The final will be in Theatre Odeon, Zwolle, preceding the performance of the concert for two guitars and orchestra by Jana Obrovska. Those who play in the final are free to choose a programme no longer than 12 minutes. The jury will be a "mixed ensemble" of renowned musicians from various fields, presided by Alex Manassen, composer and director of the Messiaen Academy.

The first prize will be €1700,-; the second prize €800,-. in addition, The audience will vote for the public award, sponsored by la Guitarra Buena.
The first and second prizewinners will also be offered a project in the coming festival, in addition to the prize money. This year, the winners of 2009, David Dyakov and Omán Kaminsky, will play the concerto for two guitars and orchestra by Jana Obrovska.
